Interestingly, over here in North America, only a few days ago marked the beginning of fall. So 中秋節(Dummy PY: Chong Chow Jeet) very simply is the festival for the arrival of mid-autumn. 節(Dummy PY: Jeet) means festival or a certain time period. 中(Dummy PY: Chong) means middle, medium, centre, etc, and 秋(Dummy PY: Chow) is short for 秋天(Dummy PY: Chow Tin) which I have mentioned in the season and weather episode, 秋天(Dummy PY: Chow Tin) means Autumn or fall. In Hong Kong though, the most commonly known name for this festival is 中秋節(Dummy PY: Chong Chow Jeet) Mid-Autumn Festival. 中秋節(Dummy PY: Chong Chow Jeet) Mid-Autumn Festival has many names, some other places might call it “Mooncake Festival” or the “Lantern Festival”, and many other names even in Chinese. Because of this, the Jade Emperor was furious and punished Wu Gang by making him cut a magic laurel for all eternity. One day, Wu Gang gave a few pills of immortality to humans. How was the Jade Rabbit selected?Ī long time ago in ancient China, there was a god called Wu Gang, whose job in heaven was to create pills of immortality, which all immortals have to take every thousand years to remain immortal. There are many interesting legends about the Jade Rabbit. It is a character from Chinese folklore, who lives on the moon with Chang'e, the Moon Goddess.
